I started the business in 1988 just after the sharemarket crash and called it 'Cyclops®'
My mother had given me a recipe for a wonderful thick natural yoghurt and I made some at home in my kitchen. This was yoghurt you just couldn't buy, so I thought, why not.

With the $1,500 limit on my credit card I leased an old butchers shop in Mt Pleasant and bought a water boiler on hire purchase. This recipe originated in Greece so I drew on my limited knowledge of early Greek mythology and called my yoghurt 'Cyclops® '.
I sold it in glass jars to local restaurants and door-to-door home deliveries.
I experimented mixing in fresh fruit and sales really took off. It was Horst Simic's suggestion that I leave the fruit on top and the distinctive fruit layer was born.
By 1989 we were selling Cyclops® in plastic pottles through supermarkets. In 1994 we re-commissioned an old evaporator so we could concentrate fresh organic milk and the following year we gained organic certification.
